Middlesex County announced the winners of the 2019 Middlesex County Office of Aging and Disabled Services’ Senior Citizen Art Contest & Exhibition, which was open to residents age 60 and over.

The works entered in the contest are on display at the Studio Art Gallery at Middlesex County College's Performing Arts Center, 2600 Woodbridge Ave. in Edison through Aug. 20. The gallery is open Monday through Thursday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

This year’s group of artists entered a variety of works in different styles and media, which were separated and judged in 10 different categories. The judging panel consisted of local artists and arts professionals.

Once again, this year’s first-place winners will compete in the New Jersey Senior Citizens Art Show this fall. The 2019 honorees will be part of an awards ceremony and reception on Aug. 21 at the Studio Art Gallery. The event will begin at 9:30 a.m. with a viewing of the artwork, followed by the Awards Presentation & Reception from 10:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the College Center, located in Cafeteria B/C.

“Our seniors look forward to this event each year, whether they’re creating new works of art or supporting their friends,” said Freeholder Blanquita B. Valenti, chair of the County’s Community Services Committee. “This event promises to be another great celebration of their artistic ambition and creativity.”

“On behalf of the Board of Chosen Freeholders, congratulations to all our senior artists,” said Freeholder Director Ronald G. Rios. “Their contributions emphasize Middlesex County’s role as a place where art enhances everyone’s lives, and where our seniors can give back to the community in exciting ways.”
