The Monroe Township Library and the Cultural Arts Commission are launching a new series focusing on operas.

Discussion will be led by Jerry Kalstein.

The first program is Sept. 11 at 1 p.m. looking at “La Boheme,” by Puccini and Leoncavallo.

The series will continue with “Don Giovanni” by Mozart and Gazzaniga, and “Barber of Seville” from Rossini and Paisiello.

Particular attention will be paid to those aspects of music and text that has resulted in one opera thriving throughout the centuries and the other forgotten.

The library is at 4 Municipal Plaza, Monroe.
