It’s Labor Day weekend, the unofficial end of summer. So here are some events in Middlesex County and other parts of Central Jersey to keep you entertained beyond just barbecues.
The Beatles: The Beginning
MONROE – John Paul Groom presents “The Beatles: The Beginning,” at the Monroe Township Library on Aug. 30 at 11 a.m. Groom, a native of Liverpool, followed The Beatles on their rise from obscurity to fame in the early 1960s. The presentation provides a detailed description of Liverpool during the 1950s and 1960s as well as The Beatles' family circumstances and musical influences. 4 Municipal Plaza, Monroe.
Friday Film: Churchill
OLD BRIDGE – The Old Bridge Library will show “Churchill,” on Aug. 30 at 2:30 p.m. Tensions mount for beleaguered British Prime Minister Winston Churchill as D-Day nears in June 1944. Fearful of repeating past mistakes, Churchill is reluctant to embark on the large-scale campaign that the entire war effort hinges upon. Clashing with his political opponents, the troubled leader receives unwavering support from his devoted wife, Clementine. Celebrate Military Family Day
EDISON – The Mobile Family Success Center of Middlesex County in collaboration with a variety of community partners will host its first ever Military Family Day on Aug. 31 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Yelencsics Park. The family-friendly celebration will have music, games, crafts, vendors, farmers’ market, presentations, health screenings and more. 2963 Woodbridge Ave., Edison.
Snack Attack Comedy Show
NEW BRUNSWICK – Snack attack is a comedy show combined with a cooking competition at the George Street Co-Op on Aug. 31 at 8 p.m. Part gut-busting laughs, part gut-filling snacks, this show will leave you fully satisfied. Over the course of the show, the hosts will serve up comedians while simultaneously making a snack from scratch, and attendees will decide the winner. This month, the hosts will each make a snack featuring chocolate chips. Doors open at 8 p.m., show starts at 8:30. Tickets are $7. 89 Morris St., New Brunswick.
Labor Day Weekend Concert
EDISON – WANTED – DOA and Tramps Like Us headline the annual Middlesex County Labor Day Weekend Concert being held at Roosevelt Park on Sept. 1. Doors open at 3 p.m. and concert starts at 4 p.m. Suggested to bring lawn chairs. Free admission. 1 Pine Drive, Edison.
Indo American Fair
PRINCETON JUNCTION – The two-day Indo American Fair is Aug. 31 and Sept. 1 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Mercer County Park in Princeton Junction. Tickets are $3. 334 South Post Road, Princeton Junction.
BBQ and Craft Beer Festival
OCEANPORT – Take a little drive to the shore area for the BBQ and Craft Beer Festival at Monmouth Park Race Track Aug. 31 to Sept. 2. This three-day event will feature various types of ribs, pulled pork and brisket in addition to a craft beer garden. Oceanport Avenue, Oceanport.
