MONROE – The Falcons boys lacrosse team 11-match winning streak ended Saturday when they lost to Southern 10-5 in the quarterfinal round of the South Jersey Group 4 tournament.

After being tied at the end of the third quarter, No. 5 Southern would score 5 goals and shutout No. 4 Monroe in the 4th quarter, securing the win.

Monroe’s goals came from Anthony Abreu (2), Matthew Dorrian (2), and Chris Pucciarelli (1).

Monroe advanced to the quarters after a crushing 17-1 win over Cherry Hill East in the Group 4 South first round on May 15 at home.

The Monroe boys lacrosse team (15-4) entered the state tournament on a high after going on defeated in divisional play and winning the Greater Middlesex County Tournament by defeating St. Joseph of Metuchen 9-6, clinching their second consecutive county title.

With the win, Southern improves its record to 15-3. They will play No. 1 Montgomery, who defeated No. 8 Washington Township 15-1, on May 22 in the semifinals.

No. 2 Lenape will face No. 3 Cherokee in the other May 22 semifinal.
