MONROE – The 56-year-old Springfield resident killed in a car accident on Applegarth Road on Monday has been identified.

Monroe police said the driver of the 2006 Lincoln Town car killed was Karam Awad. His wife, Josephine Samaan, 52, who was also injured in the accident, was released from the hospital on Tuesday.

Awad died from his injuries at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, where he and his wife were taken following the crash.

The other driver involved was identified as Sahil Parikh, 26, from Monroe. He was driving a 2006 Infiniti G35. Parikh was treated at Robert Wood for minor injuries and released Monday night.

Police said as of today, no summonses have been issued and the investigation continues.

The fatal accident happened on Applegarth Road near Lilac Road, according to a report from police on Monday night.

According to police, Awad and Samaan where traveling on the southbound side of Applegarth Road when Parikh, traveling north, allegedly crossed the double yellow line and crashed into the Lincoln.

The accident caused the road to be closed for several hours.

Police ask that anyone with information or who witnessed this accident to contact Sgt. Sergeis Jangols or Officer Daniel Mosakowski at 732-521-0222, ext. 126.
