SOUTH BRUNSWICK – Township police on Monday identified the man who was killed in a fatal crash on Route 130 on June 25.

The deceased was identified as Wei Guan, 60, of Edison.

South Brunswick Police and the Middlesex County Medical Examiner’s Office are waiting for test results “to determine if the driver who was killed … suffered a medical episode prior to the collision.”

Around 8:45 a.m., police were called to Route 130 near Fresh Ponds Road for a crash involving Guan’s Hyundai Elantra and Chevy van driven by Victor Alfonso Soria Alverez, 32, of Annapolis, Maryland, which had passengers.

Police believe that Guan was “traveling south on Route 130 when it crossed the center median and struck a 2012 Chevy van … as [the van] was traveling north on Route 130.”

Guan was declared dead at the scene. Soria Alverez and two van passengers were treated for injuries at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital.

There were no passengers in Guan’s vehicle.

As part of the initial investigation, Soria Alverez received summonses for operating a commercial vehicle without a commercial driver’s license, unlicensed bus driver, and touring privileges of nonresident drivers.

Police ask that anyone with information contact South Brunswick Police Traffic Safety Officer Jesse Blake at 732-329-4000, ext. 7474.
